ICT ENGAGES YOUR CHILDREN

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

ICT Encourages Your Children To Engage With Their Understanding, Knowlegde And Specific Learning Needs.

The Melbourne Declaration on the Educational Goals of all Young Australian's states that it is the goals that "all young Australians become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens" (MCEEYTA, 2008). Through engaging with ICT, students have the opportunity to expand their understanding and knowledge to become successful learners. Students are able to interact with a range of products and processes to express their creativity and develop their confidence with these ICTs. Students are able to research and explore their world to become active and informed citizens.

ICT provides a platform for the children in our classrooms to engage with the learning environment and gain knowlegde thorugh a learning style, or multiple intelligence, that caters for their needs. Some children learn through music, some through movement, others thorugh interacting with others. ICT provides many opportunities for children to individually explore content and knowledge in a meaningful manner to them. Through meaningful engagement with experiences, children extend their understanding and knowldge.

ICT Caters for Multiple Intelligences

Howard Gardiner's Theory

Refers to language skills. An environment in which these learners can verbally communicate with others to extend their knowledge and understanding best caters for this learning style. Linguistic learners display strong understanding of reading, writing, story telling and memorizing words and languages.

LOGICAL-MATHEMATICAL INTELLIGENCE

Refers to problem solving skills. An environment in which these learners can explore abstract and problem solving skills to extend their knowledge and understanding best caters for this learning style. Logical-mathematical learners display a strong understanding of logic based problems.

MUSICAL INTELLIGENCE

Refers to learners having an acute sensitivit to sounds and sound patterns. Refers to the use of the body to create crafts, perform and fix things. An environment in which these learners can engage with experiences in a hands-on manner to extend their knowledge and understanding best caters for this learning style.  Bodily-Kinesthetic learners display the ability to perform well in physical activities.

A Teachers' Message

The following video provides you with an insight of how technology impacts the classroom from a teachers' perspective. The video can be viewed here. Within this video, the teacher talks about creating learning opportunities for the 21st century learners. Through incorperating ICT within the classroom, the teacher is able to provide your child with the best possible opportunities to gain knowledge, further their understanding and express their imagination, creativity and ideas.

Engage Your Child At Home

There are many different programs available to help strengthen the transition between school and home. Through incorperating ICT in the classroom and home, teachers and parents are able to reguarly communicate, share knowledge and strengthen the understanding of our students. The benefits of inclusive ICT within the classroom and home for parents include:

  • regular communication with teachers

  • keep up to date with messages and events

  • keep up to date with your child's development, behaviour and learning tasks

  • simplify the transtion of learning between school and home

Classdojo is an online progam that is used to monitor student's behaviour and progress and share it with parents.  This program allows the teacher and students to set tasks and monitor how each student is progressing towards their goal. For parents, it allows you to monitor your child's progress as well as communicate with the teacher about your child and their needs. The following two videos demonstrate how Classdojo is used to enhance learning and engage both parents and students in learning.

Moodle is on online learning platform (e-learning) which allows our students to log into the school portal and gain access to lessons, resources and information from the classroom. Each student is given an individual username and password to gain access to the portal. Moodle allows our students to revise lesson, extend their study and keep up to date with their knowlegde. For parents, Moodle allows you to have access to the class lesson so you are able extend your child's knowledge from home. Moodle can also contain links to other educational sites such as mathletics and spellingcity. The following video demonstrate how a year 4 teacher, Tracey Gillies engages her students using Moodle.
